Mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris intends to pay visit to Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, October 2, 2014, Asia-Plus -- On Monday September 29, Tajik Ambassador to France Homidjon Nazarov held talks in Pairs with Member of the European Parliament, Ms. Rachida Dati, who is also mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and France.

Ms. Dati reportedly highly appraised the level of Tajikistan’s cooperation with France and the European Union and declared for further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and inter-parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.

She also appreciated Tajikistan’s support for French military contingent deployed at the Dushanbe airport and carrying out mission in Afghanistan within the framework of international coalition forces.

Ambassador Nazarov, for his part, noted that Tajikistan was ready to expand bilateral cooperation with France.  He reportedly outlined sectors like energy, agriculture, transport, tourism, and education as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

Tajik diplomat invited Ms. Rachida Dati to visit Tajikistan at any convenient time for her.   

The 7th arrondissement of Paris is one of the 20 arrondissements (administrative districts) of the capital city of France. It includes some of the major tourist attractions of Paris, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Hotel des Invalides (Napoleon’s resting place), and a concentration of such world-famous museums as the Musée d'Orsay, Musee Rodin, and the Musée du quai Branly.

Rachida Dati (27 November 1965) is a French politician and Member of the European Parliament, representing Île-de-France.  Before her election, she held the cabinet post of Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice.  She was a spokesperson for Nicolas Sarkozy during the French presidential election of 2007.  After Sarkozy's victory on May 6, 2007, she was appointed Minister of Justice.  On January 23, 2009 Nicolas Sarkozy announced that Dati would take the second position on the UMP candidate list for Île-de-France constituency in the European Parliament election in June 2009, to which she was elected.  She left her post as minister after being elected as a European deputy.  She was elected mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris on March 29, 2008.
