Rahmon, Karzai hold talks in Dushanbe to discuss Afghan problems

DUSHANBE, October 23, 2015, Asia-Plus – Ex-President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai yesterday arrived in Dushanbe on a friendly visit.

On the same day, he held talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, they exchanged views on a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries sharing common culture.

Rahmon and Karzai also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

They, in particular, pointed to the necessity of using all resources to protect peace and stability in the region, propagate the culture of tolerance and prevent terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.

Hamid Karzai (born December 24, 1957) served as President of Afghanistan for almost ten years, from December 7, 2004 to September 29, 2014.  He comes from a politically active family; Karzai's father, uncle and grandfather were all active in Afghan politics and government.  Karzai and his father before him, Abdul Ahad Karzai, were each head of the Popalzai tribe of the Durrani tribal confederation.
