DUSHANBE, August 9, 2016, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmon yesterday afternoon received a group of ambassadors of member states of the United Nations and special representatives of the High-Level Panel on Water who arrived in Dushanbe for participation in the High-Level International Symposium on SDG 6 and Targets Ensuring that No One Is Left Behind in Access to Water and Sanitation.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon noted that their participation in the event was one more evidence of rising interest of their countries in seeking solution to the water-related problems reflected in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The sides reportedly also exchanged views on significance of Tajikistan’s international initiatives on water problems and global problems related to water and sanitation.

The High-Level Panel on Water was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos last January and it aims to mobilize effective action to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, at a time of unprecedented challenges.

On April 21. 2016, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim announced the appointment of 10 Heads of State and Government, as well as two Special Advisors, to the High-Level Panel on Water.
