Rahmon urges Sughd authorities to strengthen crime prevention measures

DUSHANBE, March 28, 2016, Asia-Plus – During a visit to the northern province of Sughd, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has called on local authorities to strengthen crime prevention measures, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The call reportedly came during an address to a meeting of regional administrators that took place in the city of Guliston Saturday (March 26) afternoon.       

Speaking at the meeting, Rahmon noted with satisfaction that hundreds of industrial facilities had been introduced into operation in Sughd in recent years.

11 new industrial enterprises have been introduced into operation in the area over the first two months of this year alone, the president said.

Over the same two-month period, Sughd province has produced 240 million somoni worth of agricultural goods, which was 8.0 percent more than in the same period last year.

At the same time, the head of sate noted that the number of corruption-related crimes had increased and ordered to strengthen the fight against that problem.

He also ordered local authorities not to create obstacles in the way of development of entrepreneurship in the province.

Rahmon also expressed concern about increase in crime rate in some countries of the region and radicalization of youth especially in some cities and districts of Sughd province.

The president urged Sughd authorities to strengthen “the fight against this dangerous phenomenon.”
