Tajik, Afghan presidents hold talks in Ufa to discuss cooperation issues

DUSHANBE, July 10, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met in Ufa, the capital of Russia’s Republic of Bashkortostan with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai to discuss a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between their countries, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

They, in particular, discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the fields of security, energy and transportation.

Emomali Rahmon and Ashraf Ghani also exchanged views on implementation of mutually beneficial regional projects aimed at constructing the rail links Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan and China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran and constructing the electricity transmission line CASA-1000 (Central Asia – South Asia – 1000)  and gas pipeline Afghanistan-Tajikistan.

A special attention was reportedly paid to a trilateral trade transit agreement between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.     

The two sides also discussed issues related to training of personnel for Afghanistan’s economy in Tajikistan and expansion of bilateral military and security cooperation between the two countries for providing stability in the region.

They also discussed a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, the website said.
