The annual World water week started on Sunday, August 28, in Stockholm. The official delegation of Tajikistan at this event is headed by first Deputy Minister of energy and water resources Sulton Rahimzoda, said the Ministry.

According to the UN news Center, the participants of Week of water – the experts, practitioners, policy makers, business leaders, developers of new technologies and young professionals from different countries of the world – would gather in Stockholm to exchange views, ideas, finding new approaches to solve the problems related to water.

According to the estimates of the specialists, today the problem with clean water feels almost a third of the world's population. At the same time there is a growing demand for water in developing countries and emerging economies.

According to the World Bank, the countries of Central Asia every year experience the increasing water shortage.

"Population growth, climate change and economic development create additional challenges for countries in the region. Despite the fact that the annual water availability per capita is 2,500 cubic meters in the region at present, it is expected the drop of this level to 1,700 cubic meters per capita per year by 2030 – it is an internationally-recognized level of water shortage", - say the experts of the Bank.
