Tajik president holds a number of meetings in Abu Dhabi

DUSHANBE, March 17, 2016, Asia-Plus -- Tajik president Emomali Rahmon yesterday holds a number of meetings in Abu Dhabi, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Emomali Rahmon and Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, CEO of the Mubadala Development Company, reportedly discussed issues related to establishment of cooperation between Dushanbe and that company.

It was noted during the meeting that more than 400 investment projects covering various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy are currently being implemented in the country.

Al Mubarak noted that a dignified delegation of the UAE, led by the minister of economy, would visit Tajikistan in the future to determine priorities of bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Rahmon and Al Mubarak discussed a number projects aimed at enhancing Tajikistan’s energy sector and launching fruit and vegetable processing enterprises in Tajikistan.

Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak is an Emirati businessman.  Educated in the United States, he entered a career in construction and real estate, becoming CEO of the Mubadala Development Company.  He sits on a number of boards, including First Gulf Bank, Aldar Properties and Ferrari.  Al Mubarak is also a member of the Executive Council for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and chairman of Executive Affairs Authority.

He became the chairman of Manchester City Football Club, when the club was bought by the Abu Dhabi United Group back in September 2008.

Established in October 2002 as a Public Joint Stock Company, Mubadala Development Company PJSC (Mubadala) is a wholly owned investment vehicle of the Government of Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.  The company’s mandate is to facilitate the diversification of Abu Dhabi’s economy.  Its focus is on managing long-term, capital-intensive investments intended to deliver strong financial returns and tangible social benefits for the Emirate.

Wednesday afternoon, President Rahmon met with Mohammad Haji Al-Huri, Director-General of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

Tajik leader reportedly expressed gratitude to the Foundation for an assistance in mitigating effects of natural disaster that hit the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) last year. 

The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation was established in July 2007 and its strategies are focused on health and education on domestic, regional and global scales. The educational strategy of the Foundation includes supporting vocational educational projects in countries of the region, health needs related to malnutrition, child protection and care and the provision of safe water on a global level. 

Poor and needy communities are also supported by the provision of main infrastructure such as schools and hospitals etc.  In order to implement these strategies, the Foundation has entered into partnerships with global organizations affiliated with the United Nations and public welfare organizations.

The various assistance given by the Foundation around the world has reached more than 87 countries since its inception until the present date.
