DUSHANBE, July 21, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Defense lawyer of former ex-Minister of Industry Zayd Saidov, Shuhrat Qudratov has reportedly been detained on suspicion of offering briber to a judge.

An official source at the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption says Shuhrat Qudratov was detained on July 21 following an application from one of judges at the Dushanbe city court.

“One of judges from the Dushanbe city court lodged the application to the anticorruption agency, noting that Shuhrat Qudratov offered bribe to him,” the source, noting that criminal proceedings have been instituted against Shuhrat Qudratov under the provisions of Article 320 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – giving bribe.

He refrained from giving further details, saying that the anticorruption agency will make an official statement on that subject on July 22.

We will recall that Ms. Mohira Boborajabova, who accused controversial Tajik tycoon Zayd Saidov of rape, filed a lawsuit against one of Saidov’s defense lawyers, Shuhrat Qudratov, in the court in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district on April 12, noting that Qudratov allegedly spread false information about her through Internet.  She demanded a compensation of 200,000 somoni for moral damages.

In a ruling handed down at the Firdavsi district court on June 19, Judge Bakhtiyor Abdurahmonzoda sustained the lawsuit filed by Ms. Boborajabova against Qudratov.
