Zuhurov asks Saudi official to help organize supply of Tajik drinking water to Saudi Arabia

DUSHANBE, May 25, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik parliament speaker has reportedly asked Saudi Majlis speaker to help organize the supply of Tajik drinking water to Saudi Arabia.

Chairman of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament Shukurjon Zuhurov today met here with visiting Chairman of Majlis ash-Shura (Consultative Assembly) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the two discussed issues related to establishment of cooperation between the Tajik Parliament and the Saudi Consultative Assembly.

“In the course of the talks, Zuhurov noted that Tajikistan is interested in further expansion of bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia,” said Sultonov.  “Tajik parliament speaker said that Tajikistan supports Saudi Arabia’s foreign aimed at promoting economic development and solving social problems facing the region and Islamic world.”

Zuhurov reportedly called on Saudi Arabia to participate in implementation of energy projects and construction of power transmission lines in Tajikistan.

He also asked Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh to help organize the supply of Tajik drinking water to Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh, for his part, noted that his country is interested in expanding cooperation with Tajikistan in the field of tourism and relevant industries and importing honey, vegetable and fruits from Tajikistan, Sultonov said.

According to him, Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh invited Shukurjon Zuhurov to pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Majlis speaker is also scheduled to hold talks with Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov and President Emomali Rahmon.

Chairman of Majlis ash-Shura of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia arrived in Tajikistan Tuesday evening on a three-day official visit.
